Why the Death of a Sibling Is Like a Broken Bone

The baby boom brought children; many, many children. Sometimes, one family alone had six or more. There is strength in body and soul.

But what happens when one of those siblings passes first and prematurely? The rest of us feel a void; one of our bones is broken and can’t be healed. Holiday traditions stay the same; celebrations continue but with one less person; one less limb to carry us through.

Life goes on but we never forget. We remember the good times and want to be whole again. We remember one time, not so long ago, when we were together as a family without any challenges or responsibilities. That was then and this is now.

Happily, we remember when they were with us; sadly we remember when they left us.

Happy Birthday big brother! We miss you for who you were and who you would have been.

My deepest sympathy for you and your family.
I so dread when the cycle will strike my family.
The only consolation I find is knowing I cannot control what will eventually happen. I have found this, however. I try to celebrate my friends and family ever chance I get, no matter how big or small. Even when that is simply writing in the blog of an old high school friend.

Thank you for your thoughts. I appreciate that. I try to celebrate my family and friends every chance I get as well. Thank you for the blog comments. I enjoy writing in my blog and for that matter anywhere someone will let me!

I am so sorry for your loss. In Hinduism, we believe that the soul is eternal, it just keeps on changing bodies. And whenever the soul changes a body, it is that much more closer to attaining Moksha, the salvation. Hope you find some solace in it.

Thank you, mamaspeaks! I appreciate that. I find it fascinating the differences in people’s religion; but they all sort of have the same meanings.
